Every July, the whole country with the tradition Drink water, remember its source” and Gratitude in the anniversary of Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27). That is the preservation, cultivation and promotion of traditional patriotic and indomitable cultural values of Vietnamese people; express gratitude to those who have sacrificed their blood for peace - independence - freedom of the Fatherland today, and also an opportunity to continue propagating and educating the young generation about gratitude for people with meritorious services to the revolution.

Particularly for the War Remnants Museum, in July there were events associated with the change to have a War Remnants Museum today.

On July 4, 1995, the City People's Committee issued Decision No. 4879/QD-UB to convert the Exhibition House for Crimes of War and Aggression into the War Remnants Museum under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Information (now known as the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City). One of the most important tasks of the Museum is: Researching, collecting and displaying evidences of the wars of aggression in Vietnam, thereby educating the people, especially the young generation about love in the spirit of fighting to protect the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, and meanwhile confirming the spirit of peace-loving and solidarity of the Vietnamese people towards the people of the world in the struggle against the illegal war, protect the peace. Becoming into a Museum is a real transformation in the growth of the unit. Transform to match the development trend of the Museum system in particular and the Cultural sector in general in the city as well as the whole country. Transforming to be more consistent with the foreign policy point of the Communist Party and State of Vietnam: "Vietnam wants to be a friend of all countries in the international community, striving for peace, independence and development" with the goal of "Keeping peace, expanding friendship and cooperation, creating favorable international conditions for the construction of socialism and defense of the Fatherland, and actively contributing to the common struggle of mankind." world people for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress".

This name change also carries a special meaning right at the time when the United States signed the Agreement to normalize diplomatic relations with Vietnam (July 12, 1995).

After 5 years of transformation, in order for the Museum to have better operating conditions in the face of the general integration and development trend of the country and the city, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Department of Culture and Information (now known as the city's Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City) decided on construction investment in the War Remnants Museum and comprehensively modernize operations. After the Decision No. 36/2000/QD-UB-VX on May 30, 2000 of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City approving the master plan to develop the network of culture and information industry in Ho Chi Minh City until the year of 2010 and Decision No. 1514/QD-UB of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City approving the investment project to build the War Remnants Museum, on July 27, 2002, the construction of the Museum was began.

Over 20 years since its commencement, the War Remnants Museum has been constantly innovating and improving its expertise to make its activities more complete and diversified. The organization of the exhibition and propaganda of war crimes and memories not only speaks of pain and loss, but is an opportunity for us to better understand what the Vietnamese people in particular and humanity went through, thereby appreciating the values of peace.

Today, there are still places in the world where there is still war, and there is no peace. With all the efforts, research, learning, peace education programs have been, are and will be implemented, hoping that will contribute to creating the unique identity of the War Remnants Museum - a destination for peace, friendship and development that the public at home and abroad have loved, trusted and have had good impressions of the Museum in recent years.
