VIETNAM - WAR AND PEACE

“Vietnam – War and Peace” is a collection of 123 documentary photos by Japanese photographer Bunyo Ishikawa.

He was a photographer for Focus Studio in Hong Kong in 1964, and was then stationed in Saigon and covered the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968. He worked for the Asahi Shinbun between 1969 and 1984, before continuing his career as a freelance photographer who covered conflicts around the world.

In 1998, he held a photo exhibition entitled “War and Peace - 35 Years of Vietnam” which featured 260 photos of Vietnam in Tokyo, and then it travelled to Osaka, Okinawa and Hokkaido (Japan). Later that year, he donated most of his photos to the War Remnants Museum.

Bunyo once said: “In Vietnam, more young people have been born with no wartime experience. I want to tell them what the war looks like, and the value of peace, as peace indeed brings happinessto humankind…”
