To mark the 75th anniversary of the August Revolution and the Independence Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, let’s spend a few moments to listen to the proclamation issued by President Hồ Chí Minh boldly asserting the right of freedom and independence for all Vietnamese citizens at Ba Đình Square, Hà Nội on September 2, 1945.
The statement reads: "... Viet Nam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence and in fact has become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to mobilize all their physical and mental strength, to sacrifice their lives and property in order to safeguard their freedom and independence.”
