The International Association of Museums (ICOM) encourages the world's museums to respond to practical activities to celebrate International Museum Day May 18, 2017 with the theme: "Museums and History: Sharing the Untold stories at the museum".

Theme: "Museums and History: Sharing Untold Stories at Museums" aims to encourage visitors to share their personal memories at the museum, contributing to complementing and improving the country's history. History is a very important tool to help determine the identity of a nation and each of us has a perception of our own identity through each important historical event of the nation.

Museum collections often reflect memories and evoke historical stories. Therefore, the theme of International Museum Day 2017 encourages museums to strengthen their role as places to share peaceful relationships between people, encouraging visitors to go from historical stories and look forward to the future together in reconciliation and solidarity. Museums need to strengthen and diversify educational activities aimed at peace, sharing common understanding of the past and history to help the public understand the present and future world.

This theme emphasizes the important contribution of museums in modern society. The museum is a place that provides reliable information, uses many different museological methods and ways of displaying historical issues, and encourages visitors to make critical assessments of issues. history remains unclear, providing an opportunity for the public to receive and better understand the past, thereby building together dialogues of reconciliation and peace.

In response to ICOM's International Museum Day 2017, based on the operational orientation of the Department of Cultural Heritage, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the War Remnants Museum has developed a plan to organize many activities. Meaningful movement:

- Introducing International Museum Day to the public through the website and distributing flyers directly at the Museum, organizing the provision of information about the museum's activities to news and press agencies;

- Collaborate with Hai Phong Museum to carry out the thematic exhibition "Hai Phong - Where the waves begin" opening from April 15, 2017, serving visitors until June 30, 2017;

 

- Coordinated with Thua Thien Hue History Museum to carry out the exhibition "Vietnamese Ao Dai through historical periods" within the framework of the 7th Hue Traditional Craft Festival in 2017 with the theme "Essence of Vietnamese Crafts ” took place from April 28, 2017 to May 2, 2017 in Hue city;

 - Coordinate with the Central Southern Student Liaison Committee to organize the exchange program "Hai Phong in the hearts of Southern students" on May 13, 2017;

- Bringing mobile exhibitions to serve children at the Ho Chi Minh City Children's House; students at Tran Quang Dieu Primary School - District 3; Tran Hung Dao High School - Go Vap District; student at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine; people of Phu Giao district - Binh Duong;

 - Encourage visitors to share their personal memories at the museum through the book of impressions and learn about the Museum's display content.
