On September 23, 2019, to mark 50 years of implementing President Hồ Chí Minh’s Testament (1969 - 2019) and the 74th anniversary of the Southern Viet Nam (Cochinchina) Resistance (September 23), the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union branch of the War Remnants Museum organized a trip to one of the “red addresses” (historical sites) in Hồ Chí Minh City, the Historic Relics and Củ Chi Tunnel Complex. Representatives for the museum’s Party cell executive and executive committee of the Labor Union branch attended the event.
They first visited the Củ Chi Martyrs’ Cemetery (Street 15, An Nhơn Tây Commune, Củ Chi District) to offer incense and pay their respects to the preceding generations who were willing to sacrifice their lives for national independence and unification.
Their journey continued with Thiên Phước Center for Disabled Children in An Nhơn Tây Commune, Củ Chi District. It was a chance for them to meet with, offer gifts and help nuns feed Agent Orange victims and handicapped children. This activity was organized to enhance the spirit of solidarity and volunteerism of the museum’s youth in helping those in our society who are less fortunate. It was also an opportunity for each of the participants to actually experience part of the contents on display at the museum.
At the Historic Relics and Củ Chi Tunnel Complex, the local guide provided a tour to let them actually experience the tunnels. There they also held a discussion entitled “President Hồ Chí Minh’s Testament and the Youths’ Actions.” This visit helped them see and feel how the Southern Vietnamese in general and Củ Chi residents in particular lived and fought during 30 years of struggle for national independence and freedom. The visit also highlighted their bravery and selfless devotion to their country, despite times of hardship.
This journey enhanced the awareness and responsibilities of the Youth Union members in the historic efforts to build and defend Viet Nam to keep alive the revolutionary tradition of the previous generations, to promote a sense of responsibility for the community; and to create solidarity and a spirit of mutual assistance.
